Web Design Tips and Techniques for Site Usability
It is important for you to have a professional website in order to compete on the Internet. One of the most important factors in a successful web site is the site usability. Your website must be easy to use and more importantly, you must be able to convey this ease of use to your visitors. Many surfers will run away from websites that they may deem as too complex to use. Hence, you will have to be aware of several techniques in order to create a successful web site. This way, you can make sure that your website is one of the winners.
1. The most important thing that you have to watch out for is the fact that your website must be user friendly. This means that your website must be easy to navigate. This can be achieved by having a menu that is present at all the pages of your website and not just the main page. Many web masters forget about this important detail and as a result, your visitors can get stuck at some of the pages without a way to get back. This is a good way to lose visitors really fast. So, make sure that you have an easy navigation menu at all stages of your webpage.
2. Being user friendly means that you will also have to make sure that each of your pages are usable. This in essence means that your each web page must be able to give something to your visitors and thus there should be a reason for that web page to be in your website. Don’t give the chance for your visitors to get disappointed.
3. Never leave blank pages or white pages that have only a sentence or two. Nothing puts off visitors more than a half blank page, as it will make your webpage look amateurish.
4. Have lots of informative content densely parsed in to your website. Nothing beats a strong informative content. Your webpage may not be as flashy as your competitors; but you will be able to be the winner, if your content is superior.
5. Make sure to have some graphics and pictures to complement the text on your website. However, it is imperative for you to use these very wisely as using too much graphics can cause your website to slow down. This is not something that you want to happen and hence you should really have a layout plan to use your graphics at the right places.
6. It is important for you to check your web site to see how it performs on different monitors and on different browsers. Often what you see on the Microsoft’s Internet Explorer may be very different that what you would see on the Mozilla Firefox browser. Thus, check your website to see how it performs on different web platforms. Also, try to gauge how long it takes to open your website. If it takes too long to download, you might want to think about cropping some items off.
