One web marketing strategy often overlooked is the simple quiz. Whether its in an ad or on a site, in Flash or Javascript, a quiz is fun and challenging and brings the clicks from the kind of people who don’t click anything else. Maybe it doesn’t boost your SEO much, but a quiz can help keep a visitor around for an impression or two once they’re on your site.
One fun example is this Wikipedia quiz. The software behind it is simple: Google Web Toolkit + Wikipedia API. It simply finds sufficiently-notable pages in Wikipedia and borrows a sentence from each one, then presents them as a fill-in-the-blank multiple-choice.
With a strategy like this, you’re literally making content out of thin air! Over time, we could see where you’d be able to modify the script, say, to narrow the category down to your site’s focused topic or market. This could be the beginning of something big!
