Web Designing For The Average User

In web design | on 11.01.06

It is good to keep your website simple and easy to use. Do not try to put in too many graphics and jazz and make it difficult for the user to figure out how to navigate. A page with too many images and too much information confuses users who may leave your website and look up elsewhere. Make your site attractive and appealing; knowing very well when and where to use pictures, the right color scheme and so on. However the main message or information of your website should be prominent enough to grab the attention of the user at first glance.

The average user is not very comfortable with pop-up windows. It has been found that they get confused when too many windows open at the same time. Not knowing how to deal with them, they close the website and you simply lose out on your potential clients or customers. Although many people are using computers and the Internet regularly they still find it difficult to deal with simultaneous programs running on the screen. Thus it is advisable to avoid pop-up windows. It is better to have only one that has a big button that says ‘Close’.

To help the average user, you need to keep you website simple and easy to navigate. This will not only increase your traffic but will also help the user get the information they have been looking for and motivate them to keep coming back to you.
