Determining and understanding your audience
Audience analysis is the key factor for writing a manual, user guide or designing a website. The web is a platform for people to show their skills and abilities and the specific information they have that may be of vital use for others. A website that is sensitive to audience inputs and feedback is well appreciated. The changes included after a thorough research of viewer feedbacks can greatly enhance traffic flow. This is the reason why many of the sites have included tools for rating their content.
Researching the characteristics of your potential audience gives an excellent idea of the possible features that could be incorporated in your site. One of the factors could be age. The younger the population the more they would be attracted to things like regular updates on sports, technology and entertainment. They may be more glued to sites with the latest animation graphics and jazzy colours. They are ones who have the time and will to filter information one the web. Remember, not all websites can cater to everyone at the same time.
If your website is dedicated to news, your target population will mostly include people above the age of 15 years. The viewers will expect a quick update on events within a few hours of their happening. Editors, reporters and columnists of regional and the print media will look out for the source of your information and the quotes you may have presented, so as to gather information for their dailies. Individual agencies like the BBC are well respected for their excellent analysis of a given situation. A site dedicated to software development will be dedicated to people who are well versed with technical jargon.
Demographics give a large picture of the nature and expectations of a target audience. People living in urban areas and those who travel much, will not have enough time at their disposal for browsing the net to glean information, and would rather stick to a known source. People from a specific region may have a liking towards a few shades of colour compared to others.
Some may be fiercely patriotic and want everything in their national language. Many people do not use English even if they know it. This may give one an idea of the need and feasibility of creating a site in a specific language. Not all viewers are regular bloggers, and not do all of them feel comfortable with the kind of language used in chatting and blogging. Besides, due to the inherent fear of letting their identity known, many do not express their views freely. If you are targeting your site towards such a people, you might as well skip the need to add blogging space and stick to a regular emailing facility.
Today, most of the nations of the world have populations comprising of people of more than one race, language, religion and knowledge levels. This makes it all the important for websites to appear to be gender and race neutral. A good example is that of Canada. Canadian corporations have websites dedicated to both the French and English speaking populations. Websites can be accessed by anyone, but their purpose is served only if the right people find the right page as and when they require.

Hey this was doubtlessly one of the most effective articles I have come across on the subject so far. I don’t know where you get all of your info but I am impressed! I am gunna send some folks over here to take a look at this post. Amazing, totally fantastic. I’m have just started getting into crafting articles myself, nothing remotely close to your writing skills (ha!) but I’d love for you to take my article sometime! bowflex
What precisely do you consider is the best blog system to make use of for an individual with a quite restricted know-how of technology?
This may be off base, but how about changing the layout every now and then? Maybe not if it won’t look right, but I just get tired of seeing the same thing all the time. My own computer has about 1000 wallpapers that randomly rotate every 15 minutes, lol. Adult ADD I guess. Good post though, thanks.
